If you have not done so already, please finish reading the selection of The Odyssey that I gave you on Friday, and complete your summary of the selection in bulleted list form. When we meet for class again, we will pause our Jigsaw reading of The Odyssey for one day in order to discuss the hero's journey archetype. The next day we will resume our reading, so please be sure to bring your selection of The Odyssey and your summary, and please be ready to discuss your selection.

Now that you all have finished reading the Odyssey by Homer, you will complete a series of three different assignments. For the first assignment, you all will watch the 2000 film O' Brother Where Art Thou?, which is a modern parody of the epic poem. As you watch, you will fill out a graphic organizer as you spot the parallels between the epic poem and the film. This film has no nudity or violence, however, it is rated PG-13 because of the language as the movie is set in the Old South. I had an announcement made yesterday that you all needed to come to my classroom after school to get permission slips to take home, but it appears only a handful of you all heard the announcement. With that being said, I need you all to please have your parent or guardian write you a note that says you are either allowed to watch the movie or that you are not allowed to watch the movie. If you do not bring me a signed note, you will not be allowed in the classroom while the movie is on and you will be given an alternate assignment. If everyone brings me their note tomorrow, then we can start the movie tomorrow.
For your NTI assignment, download the file below to complete the assignment on thesis writing. This is to serve as practice before you write your Odyssey essay, which will be after the movie assignment.
